Moving to Prague checklist for students: from booking to your first week

This moving to Prague checklist for students takes you from booking, ideally about three months ahead, to your first week in the city. At Rezidence Kandertova in Prague 8 – Libeň your studio is furnished and has its own kitchen and bathroom (from €570 per person a month, all bills included), so you mainly pack bedding, towels and personal things – the rest is a matter of timing.

Moving to Prague checklist for students: about 3 months before

  • Choose Type 01 (20 m²) or Type 02 (27.5 m²), a twin place or a single studio, a start on the 1st or 15th and 6–12 months
  • Apply online – free; have your passport or ID and a photo of it ready; coming with a friend? Say so and we keep you together
  • Sign the short reservation agreement online and pay the €200 reservation by bank transfer within 5 days – it is part of your deposit; we then reserve your studio and send the lease to sign online, usually within 1 working day of payment; sign it and pay the remaining €800 of the deposit by 15 November 2026 (for later bookings, within 7 days of receiving the lease)
  • Need a visa? Your free confirmation of accommodation follows within 5 working days of signing the lease; check your embassy's current requirements on its official website

About 1 month before: documents and budget

  • Ask your university or employer for proof of study or work – you will upload it
  • Arrange liability insurance to upload at the same time
  • Plan to arrive Monday to Saturday, when move-in slots run
  • Budget for the payment due 14 days before: your first month's rent (a start on the 15th pays rent only to the month's end)
  • Make sure you can send bank transfers in euro, the contract currency

Move-in day: getting there and getting your keys

The house is a 5-minute walk from the U Kříže tram stop (trams 3 and 24). From Florenc bus station allow about 18–20 minutes, from the main railway station about 20–23 and from the airport about 55–65 minutes – see the routes below; timetables change.

We hand over the studio with a short protocol and meter readings and register you with the foreign police – nothing for you to arrange. The lift takes your suitcases up; the storage room has lockable boxes for them afterwards.

What to pack – and what is already in your studio

Already there: a bed with mattress, a desk and a chair for each resident, built-in wardrobes, a SIKO Naturel kitchen unit with hob, fridge, sink and extractor hood, a private bathroom with rain shower, and fibre internet up to 2 Gb/s; washers and dryers are in the house laundry room. Pots, pans and crockery are not listed in the equipment – ask us before you pack.

  • Bedding – bed linen at least; ask us if you are unsure about a duvet and pillow
  • Towels and toiletries
  • Warm clothes if you arrive in winter – move-in starts tentatively in December
  • Laptop, chargers and the documents you uploaded during booking

Your first week in Prague

Log in to your resident zone, where your contract, payments and requests are kept; rent is now due on the 1st of each month. A Czech bank account, a SIM card and a transport pass are typical first-week tasks – check current conditions with the providers and on the official PID website. Then explore: Pod Korábem park is 2 minutes away, the Vltava embankment 7 minutes on foot, Karlín about 15 minutes.
