Student housing near Metropolitan University Prague: an honest look at the east-side commute
Rezidence Kandertova offers student housing near Metropolitan University Prague with the commute stated up front: from the house in Prague 8 – Libeň, MUP on Dubečská in Strašnice is about 50–55 minutes by public transport, usually with two changes, or roughly 25–30 minutes by bike, by our estimate. If your week is split between campus and online teaching, a brand-new studio from €570 a month with all bills and 2 Gb/s fibre included can still make good sense.
The route to Dubečská
Libeň lies in the north-east of Prague and Strašnice in the east, but no single line connects them. The usual route is a tram from U Kříže to Masarykovo nádraží or Florenc, then tram 26 to Radošovická or bus 175 to Štěchovická and about 7–8 minutes on foot; alternatively, metro C and A to Strašnická and a short bus ride. The PID journey planner puts it at about 50–55 minutes door to door.
By bike the trip is much shorter than the public-transport route suggests – we estimate about 25–30 minutes. That is a rough figure, not a timed ride.
Everyday geography: Libeň, Vysočany, Strašnice
Most of your daily life will happen on the north-eastern side of the city. Palmovka, with metro B and shops, is about 11 minutes by tram or 5 minutes by bike. Two metro stops further, Českomoravská in Vysočany – the O2 arena and the business parks – is about 16–18 minutes from the house. Karlín is about 15 minutes away, and the Vltava embankment a seven-minute walk through Pod Korábem park.
Strašnice is for lectures, Libeň for living – plan campus days so the long trip happens only when needed.
