Affordable student housing near Prague city centre: Wenceslas Square in about 23–24 minutes
Rezidence Kandertova in Prague 8 – Libeň is affordable student housing near Prague city centre: tram 3 or 24 from U Kříže runs direct to Wenceslas Square, about 23–24 minutes door to door, and Old Town Square is about 32–35 minutes away. A brand-new studio with its own kitchen and bathroom costs from €570 per person a month, all bills included.
What “close to the centre” means in minutes
“Near the centre” is one of the vaguest phrases in Prague listings, so here are the numbers. The times in the table are door to door from the house, taken from the official PID journey planner (IDOS) for a weekday at 07:45 and 13:30. They include the 5-minute walk to U Kříže but not the wait – in the morning, trams 3 and 24 together left roughly every four minutes.
In daily life, a lecture or part-time job around Wenceslas Square is one tram ride with no change; for a nine o'clock start, leaving at about half past eight usually works. Old Town Square needs a change, which is why it takes about ten minutes longer.
Affordable student housing near Prague city centre: why just outside it
Flats in the historic centre tend to be older, more expensive per square metre and busy with visitors until late. A few tram stops out you usually get more quiet and more space for the same money: go into the centre for lectures and evenings out, and sleep and study somewhere calmer.

What you get at Kandertova instead of a Prague 1 address
Instead of a room in an old flat, you get a studio nobody has lived in before: the house was completely reconstructed in 2022–2026. Every studio has its own SIKO Naturel kitchen with hob and fridge and its own bathroom with a rain shower – no queue for the shower, no shared kitchen rota.
Studios are 20.0 m² (Type 01) or 27.5 m² (Type 02), furnished with a bed, desk and chair for each resident and built-in wardrobes; fibre internet up to 2 Gb/s is included. Pod Korábem park is right outside and the Vltava embankment is 7 minutes on foot.
Getting home in the evening and at weekends
Coming home is the same direct line in reverse: tram 3 or 24 from Václavské náměstí to U Kříže, then five minutes on foot – or metro B from Můstek to Palmovka and four minutes by tram. By bike, allow approx. 20–25 minutes (an estimate).
These times were measured on a weekday. Evening, night and weekend timetables differ, so check your connection in IDOS or the PID app before a late night out.
